The differences between these two types of fuel generally revolve around additives. Branded fuels contain additives, unbranded fuels do not. These additives improve performance, mileage and safety by a small amount. As a result branded fuels cost more, typically around 35 euro cents more per litre. However, these additives may only have relatively minor effects.
Is branded fuel better quality?
All fuels have to meet strict minimum safety standards and quality assurances. While branded fuels will always have additives that give them improved performances, this can be relatively minor. However, branded fuels do have the guarantee that they will consistently be at this higher standard.
Is branded fuel worth the cost?
The main issue with branded fuels is that you have very little leeway on negotiation. This tends to drive up costs above and beyond the normal increase in price per gallon. If you are a business that makes savings from wholesale purchases impossible.
Therefore the best strategy for businesses that primarily sell fuel is to stock branded fuel for customer satisfaction. But most businesses that do not sell fuel and only buy it would probably be best served going for unbranded fuels.

The alternative to branded fuels is unbranded fuels. Unbranded fuels do not have additives. However, they must meet basic minimum regulations. Unbranded fuels are cheaper and since price negotiation is an option, their price when bought wholesale can be significantly lower. This is because as a buyer you are free to swap between suppliers.
The disadvantage of unbranded fuels is that you are operating outside of a contract. With a contract you’re virtually guaranteed fuel in a shortage or crisis. There is no such equivalent if you are purchasing unbranded fuels.
